Newton Knows Our Neighborhood - Brentwood CA 90049

When a certain, very famous comedienne who lives in Brentwood has a plumbing challenge she picks up the phone, like she has for many years and calls Newton Plumbing.  This living legend of the entertainment industry is known for her quick wit and self-effacing style has been entertaining American audiences for decades.

Brentwood, in Los Angeles County is the home of the J. Paul Getty Museum and The Old Soldier’s Home.  Many people of notoriety live in this picturesque village because it is so charming, as well as close to the action of the city.

As famous Sunset Boulevard winds through Brentwood on the north, the charm of San Vicente Boulevard parallels its path on the south.  The arbor like feeling that emanates from the astonishing old Coral Trees reminds one of an avenue along the Paseo de la Reforma in Mexico City.  The splendid history of the shiny Red Streetcars are but a memory, yet the Brentwood Country Mart with its quaint little shops and eateries still thrives and allows us retreat to a quieter and homespun place for a quick lunch or an afternoon cup of coffee or tea.

Mt. St. Mary’s College is another landmark that makes Brentwood special.  Mt. St. Mary’s is located just north of Sunset Boulevard on Chalon Road.  A few miles west of St. Mary’s is Mandeville Canyon.  Early recorded history of Mandeville Canyon begins with two indigenous peoples; the Chumash and the Gabrielleno-Tongva, who inhabited the Santa Monica Mountain area prior to the arrival of Spanish Conquistadors in the late 1600’s.
As recently as 1920, The American Appraisal Company appraised the value of the 260 acres in lower Mandeville, (from Mandeville Lane to Chalon Road), at $65,000!
From Sullivan Canyon, (the Canyon immediately west of Mandeville Canyon), to the San Diego Freeway and from a half mile north of Sunset to Mulholland Drive, (5,050 acres), not including lower Mandeville, the valuation was $253,000.

Small town charm oozes from this picturesque place.  From the rare air atmosphere on Bristol Place and Rockingham Avenue to Bundy Drive, this community exudes much of what is good about Los Angeles.
